Use film to promote Ghana – Samira

Mrs Samira Bawumia has said the film industry is a powerful medium and an effective tool for social change and has, therefore, encouraged filmmakers to use it as a medium to advance the cause of Ghana, in particular, and Africa, as a whole.

The wife of Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia said this when she participated in the third edition of the Black Star International Film Festival (BSIFF) over the weekend, on the theme: “Film as a tool for national development”.

This year’s film festival is being held from 11 – 18 August 2018 in Accra.

BSIFF is a non-profit organisation which creates global connection through film and helps to bridge the gap between African cinema and the world.

The festival focuses on the business of film and advocacy in the region, with the goal to creating a platform where filmmakers can learn, network, do business and celebrate their craft within an African context, opening doors of opportunity for the filmmakers and audiences attending the festival.

The organisers have lined up a series of workshops and movie shows as part of the week-long festival.
