43-year-old hunter granted GH¢20,000 bail


A 43-year-old hunter, who mistook a farmer for a game and shot him has been granted bail in the sum of GH¢20,000, with one surety to be justified by the Tarkwa circuit court.
The accused, Samuel Akwasi Manu, pleaded guilty with explanation to the charge of causing harm.
Manu in his explanation told the court that, he paid Clement Karayo’s medical bills after the incident.
He further stated that the victim demanded GH¢60,000 from him as compensation, but he offered him a sum of GH¢5,000, which Karayo refused and insisted on the amount he requested for.
The trial judge, Mr Emmanuel Bart-Plange Brew, after hearing Manu’s explanation entered a plea of not guilty for the case to be heard.
The prosecutor, Detective Inspector Clement Amoah, informed the court that, the victim lived at Manso Amenfi and the accused reside at Agyei Nkwanta, near Manso Amenfi.
He said on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at about 1200 hours, the accused, who is also a farmer, went for a hunting expedition, whiles the victim was tapping rubber in his rubber plantation at Agyei Nkwanta.
The Police Detective Inspector said a few meters from the rubber plantation, the accused allegedly saw a fox and shot at it.
He said the accused later heard someone screaming for help and when he rushed to the scene, he saw Karayo kneeling under one of the rubber tree’s bleeding profusely.
Detective Inspector Amoah said, Manu attempted to carry him to the hospital for treatment but to no avail.
He said Manu then went to a nearby cottage and pleaded with a friend to assist him convey the victim to the hospital but when they returned to the scene they could not trace the victim.
The prosecution said the team searched through the bush and continued till the next day but all proved futile.
Detective Inspector Amoah said Manu reported himself to the Manso Amenfi police and he was subsequently arrested.

60-year-old man stabs friend for preventing him from marrying his long time lover
